Indonesian Artist Sandy Lee Showcases Work at Melbourne Exhibition

Indonesian award-winning illustrator and paper engineer Sandy Lee is currently showcasing his work in the Papershrine Exhibition until Aug. 11 at Lamington Drive Gallery in Melbourne, Australia.

With the title Monstrous Overwork, Sandy is the only Indonesian artist to take part in the exhibition. This opportunity came after Sandy’s win at the Modcon Illustration Competition.

The exhibition itself is curated by renowned Sydney-based paper engineer Benja Harney and his Paperform team, according to a statement.

Through the Papershrine Exhibition, Sandy will present his unique approach to paper art, heavily influenced by his passion for paper engineering.

The techniques Sandy uses include cutting and folding, embossing and manual shaping. A combination of these techniques produces an aesthetically pleasing and clean-cut artwork.

Sandy’s artwork, Monstrous Overwork, is a work of paper art depicting the constant battle inside Sandy’s mind between a need for complexity and a need for simplicity. Vibrant colors are spread throughout the artwork and are made possible by using a range of tools and techniques.

Other works by Sandy can be seen in the likes of National Geographic and Volta.
