The past two years have been atypical for the aviation sector. Travel has resumed after being grounded for months due of the epidemic, but many international airlines and airports are experiencing cancellations and delays.
The yearly ranking of the world's top airlines has been published by Australia-based aviation safety and product rating firm AirlineRatings.com during this hectic travel season.
According to AirlineRatings.com, in addition to profitability, its editorial staff also evaluated each airline's fleet age, environmental and safety records, customer feedback, and product offerings.
20 top airlines according to AirlineRatings.com for 2022:
1. Qatar Airways
Qatar Airways wins the top rank for a second consecutive year, according to AirlineRatings.com, which claims that this airline's dedication to flying during the previous few years was the determining factor. The Excellence in Long Haul - Middle East/Africa award went to Qatar Airways as well.
"Qatar Airways' decision to remain operating through the pandemic meant that it became the world's largest international airline and posted a huge profit -- the only major airline to do so," Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief of AirlineRatings.com told CNN Travel.
2. Air New Zealand
Air New Zealand, which has been first on the AirlineRatings list six times in the last few years and was second last year, is closely following Qatar Airways in the rankings. AirlineRatings.com named Air New Zealand as the airline with the finest premium economy and economy options for 2022 as well as the best choice for long-distance travel in the Pacific.
