The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, unveiled the new logo of the Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) or capital of the Nusantara with a "tree of life (Pohon Hayat)" theme at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (30/05/2023). The logo is the result of the public's choice from five design nominations that were conducted from April 4 to May 20, 2023.

This design by Aulia Akbar is inspired by the Tree of Life, which symbolizes the source of life. Where five roots symbolize Pancasila, seven trunks symbolize the major islands of Indonesia, and 17 blooming flowers symbolize the eternal symbol of independence.

President Jokowi stated in his speech that the chosen logo is the choice of the people. More than 500 thousand voters from different provinces in Indonesia chose the logo.

The logo selection process started in September 2022 with an open announcement by the Indonesian Graphic Design Association (ADGI). More than 500 designers participated in the announcement, and 10 designers were selected to participate in the IKN logo design process based on a predetermined curatorial corridor.

From the 10 logos produced, the President selected the 5 best logos and held an open vote for the public. The voting was conducted online from April 4 to May 20, 2023.

Head of Nusantara Capital Authority, Bambang Susantono, reported to the President that the selection of the new logo is part of the public participation in the preparation and development of the IKN. This is in line with the President's direction to create a sense of belonging to IKN as a reflection of the city that has been built by all Indonesians working together.

The President also hopes that this logo can inspire IKN to create a new place that becomes a source of life for the people of Indonesia.
