Gili Iyang Island, located in Sumenep, Indonesia, is recognized as one of the highest oxygen levels worldwide, after the Dead Sea in Jordan. In addition, the island was once highlighted as the island of eternal youth.

In 2005, the National Space Research Institute (Lapan) conducted research that revealed an amazing phenomenon on Gili Iyang Island. The research highlighted the excellent air quality on the island.

In the results of the research conducted by Lapan, 17 measurement locations were found related to oxygen levels on Gili Iyang Island. As a result, oxygen levels on the island are well above average. Generally, oxygen levels only range from 18 to 19 percent. However, on Gili Iyang Island, the oxygen level reaches 20.9 percent during the day and even higher, 21 percent, at night.

This means that in every 1 liter volume of air on Gili Iyang Island, there are about 0.209 liters of oxygen. These percentages suggest that air conditions on the island are better than those in other parts of Indonesia.

The Air Visual app, which records air quality, shows that Gili Iyang Island's Air Quality Index (AQI) is only one level below the oxygen levels present in the Dead Sea, Jordan. Therefore, these two locations are recognized as areas with the highest oxygen levels worldwide.

In addition, carbon dioxide (CO2) levels on the island are also in good condition, ranging from 302 to 313 ppm, which is still below the normal allowable limit in the air of 387 ppm. Air noise levels on the island are also low, ranging from 36.5 to 37.8 dbA, which is far below the noise standard allowed in residential areas, which is around 55 dbA.

According to Sumaryati, a researcher at Lapan's Center for Atmospheric Science and Technology, in the study "Kajian Potensi Wisata Kesehatan Oksigen di Gili Iyang", the factor that contributes to the excellent air quality is the air source from the sea, which most likely contains salt aerosols, especially magnesium sulfate, also known as Epsom salt. This is stated in the analysis.

There are many benefits that can be derived from the use of epsom salts beyond in-body use, including benefits for skin health and skin freshness. In addition, epsom salt has also been used in medicine, especially in the treatment of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia in pregnant women. In addition, in some cases, epsom salt can be an early medical step in the treatment of patients who have had a stroke.

The island's clean and healthy air quality at all times also has a positive impact on the life expectancy of its residents. The island is known to be home to residents who reach the age of over 90 to 100 years old and remain physically strong and without visual impairment. They still actively participate in daily activities such as working in the fields or worshiping at the nearby mosque.
