Indonesia has clinched the top spot in Southeast Asia for contributing the highest number of games to the PC gaming platform, Steam. This accolade comes from a respected curator on Steam, VirtualSEA, known for reviewing independent (indie) games from Southeast Asia.

According to VirtualSEA's data shared via the @VirtualSEAsia handle on X (formerly on Twitter) as of early January 2024, Indonesian indie developers have contributed approximately 256 games to Steam. This figure surpasses the indie game productions of other countries in the region, with Thailand and Singapore trailing in the second and third positions, offering around 158 and 134 games on Steam respectively.

The increase in the number of games from Thailand marks a significant achievement, as Singapore previously held the second position. While Thailand now boasts more games than Singapore, Indonesia remains the leading contributor.

The statistics compiled by KompasTekno from X.com on January 10, 2024, present a comprehensive list of Southeast Asian countries contributing the most games to the Steam platform:

  1. Indonesia: 256 games
  2. Thailand: 158 games
  3. Singapore: 134 games
  4. Philippines: 92 games
  5. Malaysia: 80 games
  6. Vietnam: 40 games
  7. Brunei: 7 games
  8. Myanmar: 5 games

It's essential to note that these numbers encompass all games registered in the Steam database, including released, canceled, or delayed titles, early access games, and those scheduled for future release. While VirtualSEA did not specify Indonesia's ranking compared to countries outside Southeast Asia, the data unmistakably portrays Indonesia's thriving gaming industry.

Indonesia has emerged as a key game producer in Southeast Asia, particularly on the Steam platform. Notably, several Indonesian indie developers have garnered international success. For instance, A Space for The Unbound by Mojiken Studios has earned various local and international awards. Other standout titles from local indie developers include Coffee Talk (Toge Productions), Troublemaker (Gamecom Team), Dreadout (Digital Happiness), Coral Island (Stairway Games), Grammarian Ltd (Algorocks), and numerous others
