Official Logo and Motto for Pope Francis' Southeast Asia and Oceania Trip

Pope Francis will embark on an apostolic journey to several Southeast Asian Countries and Oceania from September 2-13, 2024. His itinerary includes visits to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and Singapore. This is his irst overseas trip of the year and the longest of his 11-year papacy.

Indonesia

Upon arriving in Jakarta on September 3, he will stay until September 6. The logo for this visit depicts the Pope with his hand raised in blessing, standing before a golden "Garuda," a sacred eagle symbol, designed in the style of traditional Indonesian "batik". The motto of this journey is "Faith - Fraternity - Compassion". 

Papua New Guinea

After his visit to Indonesia, Pope Francis will travel to Papua New Guinea, where he will remain until September 9. The logo for this visit features a colorful cross, resembling the sunrise and sunset in Papua New Guinea, and the Bird of Paradise, symbolizing the nation's beauty and pride. The motto for this journey is "Pray," reflecting the desire to learn and unite in prayer, as taught by Jesus to His disciples.

Timor-Leste

Following Papua New Guinea, Pope Francis will proceed to Timor-Leste, staying until September 11. The logo for this visit shows the Pope with his hand raised in blessing, with a map of Timor-Leste depicted as part of the Earth behind him. The motto for this journey, "May your faith be your culture," invites the people of Timor-Leste to live their faith in harmony with their cherished cultural values and traditions.

Singapore

Pope Francis will conclude his trip in Singapore from September 11-13. The logo for this visit features a stylized cross, inspired by the guiding star of the Magi, the Eucharist, and the five stars from the Singaporean flag. The motto for this journey is "Unity – Hope."

"Unity" symbolizes communion and harmony among the faithful in the Church as well as in society and family. Meanwhile, "Hope" signifies that this visit will be a beacon of hope for Christians in the region, especially those facing discrimination and persecution.
