Tripadvisor has announced its list of the 25 most popular tourist attractions in the world, and two of them are in Southeast Asia: Singapore's Gardens by the Bay and Cambodia's Angkor Wat.
Gardens by the Bay is ranked 8th in Tripadvisor's 2024 Travelers' Choice Awards Best of the Best, making it the number one attraction in Asia. The 101-hectare park consists of three waterfront gardens, with Bay South Garden being the largest. Bay South Garden is famous for its two cooled conservatories, the Cloud Forest (home to one of the world's tallest indoor waterfalls) and the Flower Dome (the world's largest glass greenhouse), as well as its iconic "supertree" structures.
Visitors praise Gardens by the Bay with glowing reviews, describing it as "amazing" and "extraordinary. The park has an average rating of 4.5 stars out of more than 60,000 reviews.
Ranked 12th on the list, Angkor Wat stands majestically as the icon of Cambodian tourism. Located in the heart of the ancient Khmer city of Angkor, this temple complex is a stunning example of ancient architecture and is recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest religious structure in the world.
More than just a temple, Angkor Wat is a masterpiece that reflects the grandeur and splendor of the Khmer Empire. Visitors can explore various temples and monuments within the complex, including the iconic main temple of Angkor Wat, Bayon with its giant faces, and Ta Prohm, which is surrounded by giant tree roots.
The famous Empire State Building in New York tops the list, followed by the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, the Basílica de la Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, and the Cayman Crystal Caves in Grand Cayman.
Other attractions in Asia that made the list include the Great Wall of Mutianyu in China (19th) and the Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine in Japan (24th).
These awards are based on the quality and quantity of reviews and ratings posted by travelers on Tripadvisor between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024. The Travelers' Choice Best of the Best recognizes travelers' favorite destinations, including hotels, restaurants, beaches, amusement parks, and other activities worldwide, representing less than 1 percent of the eight million listings on Tripadvisor.
