Today, Singapore cheers as it celebrates its Independence Day. Every August 9th, the National Day Parade (NDP) and fireworks display serve as the pinnacle of the celebrations.
The 2024 National Day Parade will be held at the historic Padang, with extended celebrations on August 10th at five different locations from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The event is organized by the People's Association (PA) in collaboration with the NDP 2024 Executive Committee.
Padang, located in front of the National Gallery Singapore, which also hosted last year's parade, replaces The Float@Marina Bay, currently closed for redevelopment.
NDP 2024 Theme and Logo
The theme of Singapore's 2024 National Day Parade, "Together, As One United People," reflects the nation's journey and aspirations, celebrating achievements while reaffirming a commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
The NDP 2024 logo creatively incorporates the number "59," resembling "SG," with five stars representing democracy, peace, progress, justice, and equality. The theme song "Not Alone," composed and performed by Benjamin Kheng, adds a fresh touch while honoring the legacy of previous NDP songs.
NDP 2024 Program Highlights
NDP 2024 blends tradition and modernity across six dynamic segments. The event kicks off with a lively pre-parade performance, followed by Chapter 1, featuring a Military Tattoo, the state flag flypast, and the president’s ceremonial vehicles. Other highlights include the 'Salute-to-the-Nation' moment, with a thrilling jet fighter bomb burst in the sky.
Chapter 2 commemorates 40 years of Total Defence with the Dynamic Defence Display (D3), held for the first time at Padang. This segment showcases rapid response to emergencies, emphasizing the preparedness and resilience of Singapore's armed forces.
Chapter 3 offers a visual spectacle with performances from 12 artists and over 3,000 performers. This segment combines art and storytelling to depict Singapore's past, present, and future. LED wristbands provided to the audience will enhance the feeling of connection during the show.
Celebrations at Five Downtown Locations
NDP 2024 will continue with celebrations at five downtown locations on August 10, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Each district will feature a unique theme, with exhibitions of vehicles from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), and Singapore Police Force (SPF), along with family-friendly activities, carnival games, workshops, and stage performances.
Fireworks for the Big Finish
The NDP 2024 celebrations will culminate in a stunning fireworks display across Singapore. In addition to the fireworks lighting up the sky over Padang before the National Anthem, this spectacular show will also dazzle audiences in heartland areas like Bishan, Punggol, Yishun, Paya Lebar, and Buona Vista on August 10th.
