The 2024 Prix Versailles Awards have officially announced the winners in the Most Beautiful Airport category. Six architectural projects from five different countries received accolades for their aesthetic appeal and contributions to enhancing the quality of the air travel experience.
Notably, Southeast Asia succeeded in placing two representatives on this prestigious list: Changi Airport Terminal 2 in Singapore and Suvarnabhumi Airport’s Midfield Satellite 1. These two projects are now eligible to move on to the next stage, where they will compete with winners from other categories for three prestigious world titles: the Prix Versailles, Interior, and Exterior awards. The final winners will be announced on December 2 at UNESCO Headquarters.
The rapid development of global aviation infrastructure has brought increased awareness of the importance of integrating cultural values into air transportation. Airports, as the main gateway for visitors, are now seen as authentic representations of a destination’s identity.
By integrating local cultural elements into their interior and exterior designs, airports can serve as public spaces that are not only functional but also aesthetically meaningful. This approach aligns with efforts to promote sustainable tourism, prioritizing the preservation of natural and social environments.
“It is commendable that airport communities are at the heart of these changes," said Jérôme Gouadain, Secretary General of the Prix Versailles.
