Malaysia Ranks Third in Asia for English Proficiency

Malaysia has once again demonstrated its strong command of the English language, securing the third spot in Asia and 26th position globally according to the 2024 EF English Proficiency Index (EF EPI). 

With a score of 566, Malaysia falls under the high proficiency category, a testament to the country's emphasis on quality education and language mastery. This ranking reflects a consistent effort to develop language skills among Malaysians, which is crucial for global competitiveness.

Slight Decline in Malaysia's Global Position

However, when compared to last year, Malaysia's position has dropped by one rank, moving from 25th to 26th globally. Despite this slight decline, the country remains a leader in Southeast Asia for English proficiency. 

Malaysia continues to set a strong example in the region for advancing language education, which plays a significant role in the country’s socio-economic growth.

Singapore Leads Asia in English Proficiency

On the other hand, Singapore has maintained its top position in Asia for English proficiency. The country holds 3rd place globally, after securing 2nd place in 2022 and 2023. 

This remarkable achievement further solidifies Singapore’s reputation as a global leader in English language education, supporting its status as a hub for international business, diplomacy, and higher education.
