NIKI’s Musical Journey
Born Nicole Zefanya on January 24, 1999, NIKI's musical journey began in her childhood, influenced by her mother's church singing.
NIKI began her career by uploading song covers on YouTube. In 2012, she started performing the song "Suka Kamu" (or "Like You") with Gavin MJ on an Indonesian music show. She then released her debut single "Awali Hari Dengan Cinta" (or "Start the Day with Love") in 2014 under Sony Music.
In the same year, NIKI also won the Cornetto Road to Fame competition, which gave her the opportunity to perform as the opening act for Taylor Swift's 'The Red Tour' in Jakarta.
NIKI then continued her music education at Lipscomb University in the United States. There, she met a young Indonesian rapper, Rich Brian, who introduced her to the 88rising label in 2017. She released two singles titled "See U Never" and "I Like U". These songs were included in her debut extended play album in 2018 "Zephyr".
NIKI's career as a singer gained worldwide recognition after joining 88rising. She has also collaborated with other artists such as Rich Brian, Warren Hue, Honne, Higher Brothers, and End of the World.
Her album "Nicole" brought her further fame with hit songs like "High School in Jakarta", "Backburner", and "Take A Chance With Me". The album contains songs that narrate NIKI's past stories.
NIKI made history as the first Indonesian singer to perform at Coachella in 2022, showcasing her hit songs and even performing a local Indonesian track, "Sempurna" (or "Perfect"). Her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in May 2024 further solidified her status as a global music icon.
