Six Southeast Asian countries—Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Viet Nam—have been included in this year's list of the 40 most beautiful countries in the world, according to U.S. News & World Report.
This ranking is based on a global survey involving more than 17,000 respondents from various countries. Conducted over two months, from March 22 to May 23, 2024, the survey evaluated 89 countries using ten key indicators: adventure, agility, cultural influence, entrepreneurship, heritage, open for business, quality of life, social purpose, and national power.
Southeast Asia’s Top Destinations for Global Travelers
Thailand, with its iconic Buddhist temples and vibrant nightlife, ranks sixth on the list, attracting nearly 33 million international tourists this year, with projections to reach 36 million visitors.
Indonesia ranks 27th and is expected to welcome more than 10 million international tourists in 2024. As the largest archipelagic nation with hundreds of volcanoes and over 300 languages, Indonesia boasts remarkable cultural and geographic diversity.
Malaysia is ranked 32nd, followed by Singapore at 33rd and the Philippines at 34th. Malaysia attracted over 20 million visitors in October, while Singapore recorded nearly 14 million arrivals and the Philippines welcomed 5 million tourists throughout the year.
Viet Nam, ranked 36th, is celebrated for its cuisine, natural landscapes, culture, history and hospitality. As of November, the country has welcomed nearly 16 million international tourists and is expected to reach its target of 18 million visitors by the end of the year.
Greece secured the top spot in U.S. News & World Report's 2024 list of the world's most beautiful countries. The country's breathtaking scenery and rich cultural heritage beat out New Zealand (#2) and Italy (#3), both consistently ranked as popular destinations.
