New Flight Route to Karimunjawa: Easier Access to a Tropical Paradise

Karimunjawa, a tropical island cluster in northern Central Java, is becoming an increasingly popular tourist destination for nature lovers and divers. With its stunning white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and rich coral reefs, this hidden paradise is a must-visit. However, one of the main challenges for travelers has been the limited transportation access to the island.

Until now, most journeys to Karimunjawa have been made by sea, using boats from Jepara or Semarang. The long travel time has often been a drawback for tourists seeking a more convenient journey. 

However, great news awaits those eager to experience the beauty of Karimunjawa with greater comfort and efficiency. Starting in April 2025, a new flight route will be available, significantly reducing travel time to this exotic destination.

Direct Flights to Karimunjawa

According to an announcement on the Ministry of Tourism's official Instagram account (@kemenpar.ri), Dewandaru Airport in Karimunjawa will begin operating commercial flights in April 2025. This initiative aims to boost Karimunjawa's competitiveness as a leading tourist destination while providing easier access for both domestic and international travelers.

The new airline, FlyJaya, will be the primary operator for direct flights to Karimunjawa. The planned routes include flights from Yogyakarta and Semarang. The aircraft used for these flights will be ATR-type planes with a capacity of 70 passengers, making them ideal for short-haul routes to the island.

Flight Schedule and Routes

  • From Yogyakarta: Flights will depart from Adi Soetjipto Airport to Dewandaru Airport, Karimunjawa.
  • From Semarang: Flights will depart from Ahmad Yani Airport directly to Karimunjawa.

With this new route, travelers now have a quicker and more efficient travel option than their previous reliance on sea transportation. The flights are expected to boost tourism and drive local economic growth through the tourism sector.
