ARTJOG 2025, the renowned contemporary art festival held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, will return to the Jogja National Museum from June 20 to August 31, 2025.
This year’s theme, "Motif: Amalan" (translated as “Practice”), invites the public to see art not merely as an aesthetic pursuit, but as a conscious, everyday act of gratitude.
As founder Heri Pemad puts it, “Art is not just about expression, but also an act of gratitude—something that can be practiced daily and reflect social awareness.”
A Platform for Environmental and Social Engagement
This year, 47 visual artists present works that challenge conventional ideas about the function of art. One large-scale installation uses wood to highlight issues of environmental degradation, while another—a giant robot constructed from recycled toys—encourages visitors to donate their own used toys to become part of the evolving piece.
ARTJOG 2025 also debuts the "Spotlight" program, which bridges the art world with formal sectors, aiming to make art more accessible and relevant to a broader audience.
Fostering Inclusion and Emerging Talents
The festival emphasizes inclusivity through collaborations with artists with disabilities, in partnership with Open Arms (Selasar Sunaryo Art Space). The LoveARTJOG mini-residency program connects artists with disabilities to local studios, while dedicated mentorship programs support young individuals with disabilities in developing their creative potential.
Weekly Performances and Community Engagement
Beyond its visual art exhibitions, ARTJOG 2025 features weekly performances by 53 artists and collectives, including Bottlesmoker, Rumah Atsiri Indonesia, Ishvara Devanti, Lembana Artgroecosystem, as well as international acts like Tralala Blip and Ko Shin Moon.
Complementary programs include the Young Artist Award, exhibition tours, artist talks, Artcare Indonesia, and Jogja Art Weeks. The festival also continues to support the development of young talents through ARTJOG Kids 2025, showcasing works by 44 young artists aged 6–15 from across Java.
