Malaysia are set to receive a major boost ahead of their crucial AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifying fixture against Viet Nam this March, with two newly naturalized players ready to don the Harimau Malaya shirt.

Bérgson da Silva and Giancarlo Gallifuoco have reportedly completed their naturalization process and are now eligible to represent Malaysia at international level. Both players qualified through residency, having lived and played in Malaysia continuously for five years.

The additions are seen as a strategic reinforcement as Malaysia aim to strengthen their squad depth for what promises to be a decisive encounter in the qualification campaign.

Bérgson da Silva – Proven Firepower Up Front

At 35, Brazilian-born forward Bérgson da Silva brings experience, leadership, and a consistent goal-scoring record. Since joining Johor Darul Ta'zim F.C. in 2021, he has established himself as one of the most clinical strikers in Malaysian domestic football.

His movement, composure in front of goal, and ability to deliver in big matches make him a valuable addition to Malaysia’s attacking line—particularly against a disciplined Viet Nam side known for defensive structure and tactical organization.

On the international stage, Bérgson previously represented Brazil at U-20 level in 2010, underlining his pedigree from a nation synonymous with elite football development.

Giancarlo Gallifuoco – Defensive Steel at the Back

Strengthening the defensive unit is 32-year-old centre-back Giancarlo Gallifuoco. The Australian-born defender has been a key figure for Kuala Lumpur City F.C. since 2021, earning recognition for his physical presence, aerial dominance, and organizational leadership at the back.

Gallifuoco also carries international youth experience, having featured for Australia at U-17, U-20, and U-23 levels. His understanding of high-tempo international football could prove vital in containing Viet Nam’s dynamic attacking threats.

A Calculated Move Ahead of a Crucial Test

The naturalization of Bérgson and Gallifuoco reflects Malaysia’s intent to compete at a higher level within Asia. With added experience in both attack and defense, the squad gains not only technical quality but also maturity in key areas of the pitch.

The upcoming clash against Viet Nam in March could serve as the first real test for Malaysia’s reinforced lineup. Should both players feature, the match may mark the beginning of a new chapter for Harimau Malaya as they push toward qualification for the 2027 Asian Cup.
