Indonesia international Calvin Verdonk has secured a place in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League with LOSC Lille. The Ligue 1 side completed a dramatic comeback against Serbian giants Crvena Zvezda after extra time.
Verdonk entered the match as a substitute in the 106th minute and played approximately 15 minutes, replacing Perraud at left-back. Despite limited time on the pitch, he delivered a composed defensive performance.
The Indonesian defender recorded 11 touches, completed 5 of 9 passes (56 percent accuracy), including 1 of 2 passes in the final third, and registered two clearances.
This marks Verdonk’s first season with Lille in France’s top flight. He continues to break ground as one of the few Indonesian players to feature in Ligue 1. So far this season, he has made 18 appearances across all competitions: 10 in Ligue 1, 7 in the Europa League, and 1 in the Coupe de France.
Although he is not yet the undisputed first-choice left-back due to competition with Perraud, a French defender and former France international, Verdonk has remained an important rotational option and has shared starting duties on several occasions.
From Indonesia to the Europa League knockouts — a big stage, and even bigger moments.
