Indonesian defender Kevin Diks continues to make history in the Bundesliga. The first and currently only Indonesian player to feature in Germany’s top flight once again delivered on the big stage, calmly converting a late penalty to secure a 1-0 victory for Borussia Mönchengladbach against Union Berlin.

With that strike, Diks maintained a perfect record from the spot: four penalties taken, four goals scored, a flawless 100 percent conversion rate. It further cements his status as a penalty specialist at his current club. This trust is nothing new for the 29-year-old defender, who was also a regular penalty taker during his time at FC Copenhagen. Now, he carries that same composure and responsibility onto one of the world’s elite football stages.

The match itself was nothing short of dramatic. Diks nearly found the net in the first half with a close chance. In the 65th minute, he thought he had broken the deadlock, only for his goal to be ruled out after a VAR review confirmed he was in an offside position.

But big players rise in big moments.

Deep into stoppage time, at 90+4, Diks stepped up once more and buried the decisive penalty with ice-cold precision, sealing a crucial 1-0 win for Gladbach. His commanding performance earned him one of the highest match ratings, underlining his influence at both ends of the pitch.

Indonesia is truly fortunate to have a player competing and thriving at this level. All eyes will now be on Diks as fans eagerly await his return to represent the national team in March’s FIFA Series fixtures.
