Access, Costs, and Operational Hours Guide
The short flower blooming cycle forces the tourist piers in Nong Han to set very early operational hours. All boat rental activities on this lake open at six in the morning and close toward midday.
Tourists are advised to arrive at the location before sunrise to capture the best moments. The overland journey from downtown Udon Thani located 45 kilometers away should ideally begin at five in the morning.
Since regular mass public transportation networks are not yet available the best transport options are using ride-hailing services or a rented vehicle. The travel time from the city takes about fifty minutes cutting through quiet countryside roads.
Upon arriving at the main pier the local fisherman community is ready with an organized boat queuing system. The entrance fee to the tourist area itself is free because visitors only need to pay for the boat rental which varies according to capacity.
A small wooden boat with a maximum capacity of two people charges a rental rate of around 150 Baht for the short route. Meanwhile for a longer route that circles the middle of the lake the rate is adjusted to 300 Baht.
For large groups large motorized boats with protective roofs are available for 500 Baht which can accommodate up to ten passengers. This rate already includes the services of a local driver who will steer the boat directly to the densest clusters of lotuses in the middle of the lake.
