Thailand records the highest decline in birth rate in Southeast Asia and ranks third in Asia!
Based on data from the UN’s World Population Prospects 2022, summarizing the changes in birth rates in percentage from 1950 to 2021. Over the past 70 years, almost all countries have experienced significant declines in birth rates, such as China and South Korea, which have seen drastic decreases exceeding 80%.
In Southeast Asia, Thailand has recorded the highest decline of 79% from 1950 to 2021. The decline in birth rates, often measured by the crude birth rate (CBR), reflects a global trend of declining fertility. Fertility rates indicate the average number of children a woman will have in her lifetime. Various factors such as population size, demographic structure, access to contraception, cultural norms, and socioeconomic conditions influence the birth rate of a country.
