Malaysia achieved an outstanding feat by becoming the country with the highest democracy index in Southeast Asia in 2023, according to the Democracy Index 2023 report published by the Economist Intelligence Unit. With a score of 7.29, Malaysia stood out in the quality of its democracy, measured through 60 indicators covering pluralism, civil liberties, and political culture. On the other hand, Myanmar ranked lowest with a score of 0.85 and was categorized as an authoritarian regime.
