Literacy Rate in Southeast Asia, 2023

Brunei has the highest literacy rate in Southeast Asia, 2023!

In 2023, Southeast Asian countries released updates on the literacy rates of each country. Data was obtained from each country’s official government institutions such as statistics agencies, ministries, and education departments.

Brunei topped the list with 99.7% of its population literacy rate in 2023. It’s worth noting that this percentage is based on the population aged 15 and above.

Vietnam ranked second with 98.63%, marking a significant increase in literacy rate since the last update in 2021.

Singapore ranked third with a literacy rate of 97.6%. Data was sourced from SingStat, which released the latest data in 2021. There is no 2023 data released by the Department of Statistics Singapore yet.

What do you think? How important is it to track the literacy rates of each country’s population? Let’s discuss.
