Most Powerful Naval Forces in Asia, 2024

Indonesian Navy Ranks as the Second Strongest Naval Force in Asia and Fourth in the World for 2024!

According to the annual rankings data from the World Directory of Modern Military Warships (WDMMW), which publishes the Global Naval Powers Ranking (2024):The United States Navy tops the list as the strongest in the world with a TvR of 323.9, followed by the People’s Liberation Army Navy of China at number 2 with a TvR of 319.8, and the Russian Navy at third place with a TvR of 242.3.

Indonesia ranks fourth globally and second in Asia, achieving a TvR score of 137.3. The WDMMW annual rankings employ a formula that considers values related to the total combat strength of various naval forces worldwide. This formula generates the ‘TrueValueRating’ (TvR), which helps definitively differentiate each force based not only on overall strength but also modernization, logistical support, attack and defense capabilities, and more. This approach evaluates countries not just based on the total quantity of warships and submarines but also on the quality and composition of their overall inventory. Additionally, it focuses on local shipyard capabilities, inventory balance (combination of unit types overall), and operational experience.
