The Most Walkable Cities in Asia, 2024

Cambodia's vibrant capital, Phnom Penh, has been recognized as the second most walkable city in Asia for 2024, according to Preply Research. This accolade underscores the city’s excellent pedestrian-friendly environment, making it a top destination for those who enjoy exploring on foot.

In Phnom Penh, a leisurely walk from the Royal Palace to the National Museum, with stops for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, covers a distance of two miles (3.2 kilometers) and takes just 45 minutes. The city's compact center and flat terrain make it particularly easy to navigate, allowing visitors to experience its rich cultural and historical landmarks effortlessly. On average, tourists walking through Phnom Penh complete about 4,000 steps and burn around 200 calories throughout their day.

Preply Research evaluated 30 Asian cities for walkability by employing AI to design a hypothetical one-day walking itinerary for each. The total distance of the routes was then converted into walking time using Google Maps, which determined each city’s ranking.
