Indonesia and the Philippines led nickel production in 2023!
Nickel has become a key component, especially with the growth of electric vehicles. It is estimated that nickel will become more important than oil and coal in the future.
Typically, nickel is used in the production of stainless steel, anti-corrosion metals, nickel-metal hybrid batteries, among others.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey’s Mineral Commodity Summaries in January 2024, there were 9 largest nickel-producing countries in the world in 2023. Indonesia ranked first in nickel production with a total of 1.8 million metric tons, followed by the Philippines with 400 thousand metric tons.
