Indonesia sold 803,687 cars in 2025, hitting Gaikindo’s target despite high interest rates, inflation pressure, and tighter consumer spending.

Gaikindo said the market stayed resilient, but buyers increasingly chose more affordable models, while EV brands like BYD and VinFast gained more attention.

Electric vehicle sales grew thanks to incentives, better charging access, and competitive pricing, though MPVs and SUVs with combustion engines still dominated overall sales.

Analysts noted financing costs were still a major barrier, since higher interest rates made car loans more expensive for middle-class buyers.

For 2026, Gaikindo is cautiously optimistic as potential rate cuts, stronger EV adoption, and new model launches could lift sales—though risks remain from global uncertainty, currency swings, and rising competition from Chinese and ASEAN automakers.
