The Philippines has signed a US$700 million agreement to purchase 12 additional FA-50 light fighter jets from South Korea’s Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), boosting its air defense capabilities.

This new deal follows a previous acquisition of 12 FA-50s and is part of the Philippine military’s modernization program amid rising tensions in the South China Sea.

According to KAI, the jets are equipped for both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, offering flexibility for combat and patrol operations.

Philippine defense officials stated that the enhanced fleet will strengthen the country’s ability to respond to regional threats and conduct joint exercises with allied forces.

The aircraft deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2026, reinforcing the growing strategic partnership between the Philippines and South Korea in regional security and defense cooperation.
