Singapore has announced plans to acquire two plots of Malaysian land as part of a major expansion of the Woodlands Checkpoint, aimed at easing cross-border congestion.
The land acquisition, totaling approximately 0.79 hectares, will support infrastructure upgrades to improve traffic flow and security at one of Southeast Asia’s busiest border crossings.
According to Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), the redevelopment will begin in the third quarter of 2025 and includes advanced screening systems and wider vehicle lanes.
Discussions with Malaysian authorities are ongoing to ensure the process respects bilateral agreements and maintains cooperative ties between both nations.
Officials say the expansion is crucial for handling increasing cross-border movement and will benefit travelers and trade on both sides of the Johor–Singapore Causeway.
