Singapore's Wong encourages Singaporeans to learn Bahasa Melayu, embrace Malay culture

Singapore PM Lawrence Wong encouraged citizens to learn Bahasa Melayu and better appreciate Malay culture during his 2026 National Day Rally speech.

Speaking in Malay, Wong highlighted the language’s importance as Singapore’s national language, the language of the national anthem, and part of military traditions.

He said embracing Malay heritage can strengthen regional ties and create new opportunities for Singaporeans and businesses.
