Island within an Island? The Mystery of Lake Toba

Lake Toba, located in North Sumatra Province, is Indonesia's largest lake and the world's largest volcanogenic lake, measuring about 100 kilometers in length, 30 kilometers in width, and 505 meters in depth.

Formed roughly 74,000 years ago by a major volcanic eruption, it features Samosir Island at its center, which contains Lake Sidihoni, a smaller lake often referred to as a "lake within a lake," and this volcanic event is believed to have had significant global climate impacts and affected early human populations.

Lake Toba has successfully hosted prestigious international events, including the F1 Powerboat and Aquabike Jetski World Championship, which are organized by InJourney and are expected to generate an economic impact of approximately IDR 1.8 trillion by 2027.

Recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark and one of Indonesia's Super Priority Destinations, Lake Toba can be accessed by both land and air, with nearby InJourney-owned airports such as Raja Sisingamangaraja XII and Kualanamu supporting its tourism.
