- Takut: Faces of Fear
Takut is a horror anthology film of Indonesia which was released in 2008. Brian Yuzna, internationally recognized master of independent horror films and one of the leading figures of the surprise renaissance of B-movies in Spain, has decided to set up shop in Indonesia.
This is a compilation of short films starring Lukman Sardi, Eva Celia and Fauzi Badilla that aired at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2009.
- Rumah Dara (Macabre)
Rumah Dara, retitled as Macabre for its English release, came out of Takut: Faces of Fear. The movie was remade completely and starred Shareefa Daanish and Julie Estelle. It was shown at the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) in South Korea back in 2009, where Shareefa won a Best Actress award.
The film tells about a group of people travelling by car to the airport, when along the road, they meet a beautiful woman named Maya. The story unfolds as the group of travelers attempts to escape from a house which is owned by a mysterious lady named Dara and her family. The group is attacked with several types of weapons. The film is based on the short film Dara.
- Pintu Terlarang (The Forbidden Door)
Pintu Terlarang is a 2009 Indonesian horror film, directed by Joko Anwar. It is based on the novel Pintu Terlarang, written by Sekar Ayu Asmara. Plot teaser this movie when Gambir's life of a successful sculptor is turned upside down when he begins receiving mysterious messages from someone who asks for his help.
This film isn't too famous in Indonesia, but iconic local director Joko Anwar’s movie successfully toured international film festivals in 2009 including PiFan, the Bangkok International Film Festival and Rotterdam International Film Festival. The movie stars Fachri Albar, Marsha Timothy and Ario Bayu was included in the 'World’s 100 Best Films' by the magazineSight and Sound.
- Modus Anomali
This movie tells about a man who was on holiday with his family in a cabin in the woods. Then they were surprised by the arrival of a strange visitor, and murder happening everywhere. Strangeness continue to occur until he began to find several alarm clocks. Suddenly he must race against time if it wants to meet with his family back.
Another critically-acclaimed movie from Joko Anwar, Modus AnomalistarsRio Dewanto and Hannah Rasyid. The movie aired at the SXSW Austin Film Festival 2012 in Texas and won a Bucheon Award from the South Korea-based Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF).
- Kala
Kala or also known as The Secret is a 2007 Indonesian film noir thriller. It was the second feature film for Joko, who previously directed the 2005 comedy film, Joni's Promise.
Joko Anwar is one of the best horror movie directors in Indonesia. Another of his films that got a ton of attention is Kala. Starring Fachri Albar, Shanty, Fahrani and Ario Bayu, it featured at PiFan 2007, the 2007 Hong Kong Asian Film Festival, Osian Cinefan 2008, Bangkok International Film Festival 2007 and the Vancouver International Film Festival 2008. This movie also received a Jury Prize at the New York Asia Film Festival 2007.
