Jack Morris took a leap of faith five years ago after waking up one morning and deciding he craved an adventure. Quit his job as a carpet cleaner in Manchester, UK, the 26-year-old booked a one-way ticket to Bangkok and never looked back.
“It was literally waking up one morning and I wanted to try something different. I flew out on my own with no plan and just wanted to see what came at me,” said him.
For years into travelling Jack met Lauren Bullen. Lauren, 23, is a self-taught photographer from Australia, who goes by the alias Gypsea Lust. They met in March, 2016 while both of them were travelling to Fiji. Then, they started to embody the travel, fashion and lifestyle mantra showcasing the most incredible destination in the world.
Using Instagram as their platform this couple – whom currently living in Bali gained many followers in such a short period. Jack said, in the last the last nine months since the pair met, Lauren has gained more than 700,000 and he has benefited from more than half a million.
'I think it was because it was mixing the photography up with Lauren and people enjoy seeing a couple and it works for us,' he said.
With Jack now at 2 million Instagram followers, and Lauren close behind with 1.2 million, the couple now makes enough money from the brands and tourism companies that sponsor them to fully supplement regular adventures around the globe, as well as a home base in Bali. In a Q&A recently posted to his official website, DoYouTravel, Jack shared a few tips that helped propel him and Lauren to Insta-fame, and you may want to take notes.
“I edit all my photos in the same kind of style with my own lightroom presets,” he said of their dreamy ‘matching’ effect. He also added that the couple mostly shoots around 1 hour after sunrise, since that tends to be the quietest time of day.
Jack said that he avoids Instagram filters and always takes the time to ensure his images match. Jack also revealed that he and Lauren, aka Gypsea_Lust, take all their own photos and that any snaps of the two of them together are taken via a tripod with a timer remote.
The couple reportedly won’t take less than $3000 USD for a post. He added, “We try to balance our life between being at home in Bali, travel jobs and travelling for fun. We aim to visit at least one new country each month, non – work related, which most of the time is decided on by a last minute decision.”
Despite their work load, the duo are aware of how truly lucky they are. “It is almost a dream. Being able to do what I want every day is nice,” he said.
“It is ideal, I never really expected to find someone I could share this with, so it worked out really well.'
