Indonesia Crowned Asia’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination at the 2024 World Travel Awards

The World Travel Awards recently bestowed Indonesia with the prestigious title of Asia’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination. The award ceremony took place in Manila, the Philippines, on September 3, 2024.

In this category, Indonesia was not the only nominee. Other contenders for Asia’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination included Thailand, India, Japan, Malaysia, China, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

Previously, this title has also been awarded to countries such as Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Japan in past years.

Why Indonesia?

Indonesia boasts an extraordinary range of natural wonders, largely due to its unique geographical location. This positioning allows Indonesia to offer a wide variety of unrivaled adventure tourism experiences. The country's diverse geography creates exceptional adventure tourism opportunities, from lush tropical rainforests and vibrant coral reefs to numerous active volcanoes scattered across the archipelago.

These factors make Indonesia a country with special and unique appeal, particularly for true adventurers. Tourists will experience distinct and varied adventures on every visit to Indonesia’s many adventure tourism spots.

From Sabang in the west to Merauke in the east, adventurers can explore a wide array of destinations. On the island of Sumatra, they can visit Lake Toba, the largest volcanic lake in the world, covering an area of approximately 1,130 square kilometers with a depth of 505 meters.

Meanwhile, in eastern Indonesia, adventurers can hike Mount Rinjani in West Nusa Tenggara Province or go white-water rafting on the wild rivers of Kalimantan. For a more extreme experience, travelers can visit Komodo National Park in East Nusa Tenggara, where they can observe Komodo dragons in their natural habitat.
