Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2019 names the top 10 countries, cities, regions and best value destinations that Lonely Planet experts recommend travelers experience next year

Sri Lanka took the top spot for the best country to visit next year, with Germany and Zimbabwe in second and third place respectively. 

“Already notable to intrepid travellers for its mix of religions and cultures, its timeless temples, its rich and accessible wildlife, its growing surf scene and its people who defy all odds by their welcome and friendliness after decades of civil conflict, this is a country revived,” says Lonely Planet in its Best in Travel 2019 edition.

In Southeast Asia, Indonesia is ranked as the world’s seventh best destination for 2019, and Lonely Planet recommends travelling beyond its most touristed island to explore more remote areas such as Raja Ampat, Sumatra, Borneo and Komodo.
