Construction of the Bali Urban Rail Metro Line, including the MRT, is progressing rapidly. The provincial, city and district governments, together with PT Sarana Bali Dwipa Jaya (SBDJ), are committed to completing the project on time.
The project is scheduled to break ground in September 2024, with the first phase of the MRT expected to be completed by 2028. This initiative is expected to provide a solution to traffic congestion and improve connectivity in Bali.
The long-awaited construction of the Bali MRT is about to come to fruition. After years of speculation and a slow pace of progress, the project is now moving into a more concrete phase.
Investors for the project have been secured and an official announcement will be made next week. The budget is currently being finalized and investors have been asked to finalize all agreements and documents by the end of this month in order to be ready for the groundbreaking in September.
Traffic congestion in Bali is a major concern for both tourists and locals. The presence of the Bali MRT is expected to alleviate traffic problems and improve connectivity, especially in Badung Regency, which includes popular resort areas such as Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, Uluwatu and Nusa Dua.
The Bali Urban Rail Metro system is planned to provide regular trains every 15 minutes. Gede Wayan Samsi Gunarta, head of Bali's Transportation Service, said the service capacity design for the metro is currently being calculated.
According to the initial concept, the Bali Urban Rail Network will consist of six lines, including a tram line. The first line will connect I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport with Kuta Beach, Legian, Seminyak, Kerobokan and North Denpasar. The second line will be a circular route connecting Bali Airport with Benoa, Sanur, Sindhu, Denpasar, Renon, the Monument and back to the airport.
