The Design of Indonesia's First 100% Recycled Mineral Water Bottle

The Design of Indonesia's First 100% Recycled Mineral Water Bottle

Indonesia’s AQUA, had officially revealed a completely new label-free bottle made from 100% recycled plastic & 100% recyclable plastic as part of its commitment in making a huge impact in the war on plastic waste. This is the first 100% rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate) bottle in Indonesia, meaning that this bottle has been made without using any virgin plastic

The new bottle is aiming to make AQUA completely circular; in which the bottle will become the vert resources to be used in new goods and services, which means eliminating the unnecessary packaging; it is designed to be safely reused, recycled or composted; and ensuring the material produced stays in the economy and never becomes waste or pollution.

The recycled bottle will start to be made available from February 2019 and the distribution to be expanded to other parts of Indonesia to create bigger impacts. It is hope that this will trigger and encourage consumers to recycle more and to help people make recycling a lifelong habit.

In addition to adding product portfolios, the latest 100% rPET packaging is part of the AQUA step to increase the content of recycled plastic in all products. So far, on average, their products already contain about 25% of rPET plastic. In 2025, AQUA targets the rPET content to increase to 50% in all products..

The new 1.1 L packaging includes an embossing on the bottle that made a conventional sleeve redundant. This move will help make the bottle 100% recyclable and reduce the amount of used plastic in each bottle.

AQUA’s parent company, Danone, recently announced a series of new commitments and actions to ensure its packaging will become 100% circular, and to accelerate the global transition towards a circular economy of packaging.

AQUA is also aiming at direct engagement with consumers to increase recycling rates, through a new movement titled “#BijakBerplastik,” or “Be Plastic Wise.” Through this movement, AQUA commits to support pioneering technologies & social business programs to clean plastic waste from the environment, to make its entire package 100% reusable, recyclable and compostable products by 2025, while increasing the proportion of recycled plastic in the bottles from 11% to 50% by 2025, and to expand its school program to reach 5 million kids and lead campaign in recycling education, and to activate consumer awareness recycling programs targeting 100 million consumers by 2025.
