Australia is committed to supporting COVID-19 vaccine access in the Pacific and Southeast Asia

The Australian Government is committed to supporting access to a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine for the Pacific and Southeast Asia Region as part of our region's joint recovery from the pandemic. It will also contribute to the health security and recovery of Australia's economy.

The statement was issued jointly by Australian Health Minister Greg Hunt, Australian Assistant Minister of Defense Alex Hawke, and Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne via the Indonesia-Australia embassy website (31/10/2020).

Apart from providing the Covid-19 vaccine, Australia will also provide technical support to their partners.

"We made a commitment of $ 500 million over three years for this effort on top of the A $ 23.2 million budgeted in the Australian Government Budget. Such funding will further help ensure that Pacific countries and Timor-Leste can receive full immunization coverage and will make a significant contribution to meeting Southeast Asia's needs. "
