Indonesia's Green and Blue Ammonia Project Takes the Stage at ASEAN Summit

There were many interesting events that took place during the 43rd ASEAN Summit and its series of events. The series of events of the ASEAN Summit did not only include meetings of heads of state and government but also various other sectors.

One of them, PT Pupuk Indonesia, participated in the organization of the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Forum (AIPF), which was held in Jakarta on September 5 and 6.

Jamsaton Nababan, Director of Portfolio and Business Development of Pupuk Indonesia, revealed that in this strategic forum, Pupuk Indonesia introduced innovations in the form of blue ammonia and green ammonia as a source of clean energy in the future. With the growing global energy demand, both types of ammonia are expected to become more important.

Furthermore, he explained that this development effort is part of Pupuk Indonesia's business diversification, while also supporting the development of the domestic hydrogen industry to increase value added to the national economy. In addition, it is important to note that Pupuk Indonesia has accumulated more than fifty years of experience in ammonia production, distribution, and management.

In the AIPF 2023, four development plans related to blue ammonia and green ammonia have been disclosed and have attracted attention. One of them is the development of blue ammonia in Yamdena Island, which will be carried out jointly with INPEX Company of Japan. In addition, there is an interesting blue ammonia development plan in the Pupuk Iskandar Muda (PIM) area in Aceh, which will be carried out with Mitsui, also from Japan.

In addition to the blue ammonia development, there is a very interesting hybrid green ammonia project involving Petrokimia Gresik. In this project, Petrokimia Gresik will cooperate with PLN and ACWA Power from Saudi Arabia.

Pupuk Indonesia also has plans for the development of hybrid green ammonia at Pupuk Iskandar Muda (PIM), which will be in collaboration with Toyo and Mitsui, both companies from Japan.

In addition, in line with the theme of AIPF 2023, Pupuk Indonesia not only prioritizes infrastructure to support the development of clean chemicals but also excels in the area of digital transformation.

This initiative involves the application of information technology to improve the competitiveness of the fertilizer industry at the national level. In this digital transformation initiative, Pupuk Indonesia has adopted various advanced technologies such as robotics, simulation, Internet of Things (IoT), cybersecurity, cloud computing, big data, virtual reality, and precision agriculture.

Their presence at this event is expected to provide an invaluable opportunity for Pupuk Indonesia to showcase its important contribution to national development efforts.
