Synergizing Routes: Philippine Airlines Expands Connectivity through Codeshare Collaboration with American Airlines

Philippine Airlines (PAL) recently expanded its flight coverage by adding seven new states in the United States, including Las Vegas and Washington D.C., to its network through a codeshare agreement with American Airlines.

With this partnership, PAL makes history as the first Philippine airline to reach multiple destinations in the U.S. beyond its traditional cities of Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco, making this move a significant achievement in its service expansion.

PAL and American Airlines have already planned a codeshare partnership to offer flights from Los Angeles to destinations such as Atlanta, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, and Washington D.C.

On the other hand, American Airlines will also work with PAL to facilitate passenger travel to Manila and Cebu via Tokyo. American will also codeshare on PAL flights to Manila via Guam and Honolulu.

Codeshare is an airline industry practice in which two or more airlines work together to operate the same flight and sell seats under their respective brands. Eric David Anderson, Chief Commercial Officer of Philippine Airlines (PAL), expressed the airline's desire to expand its reach in the North American market amid growing competition to attract travelers to the United States.

He noted that the partnership with American Airlines opens up more diverse travel options for customers traveling between Asia and the United States. He added that the airline is excited to realize its long-term strategy of expanding its global reach and hopes to create more opportunities for travelers to explore the beauty of the Philippines.

Currently, PAL operates two daily flights to Los Angeles and daily flights to Guam and San Francisco. The airline also offers weekly flights to Honolulu and New York.

Recently, the airline, owned by business magnate Lucio Tan, faced a new competitor in the U.S. travel market from the Philippines. In October, United Airlines, one of the world's largest airlines, launched daily flights between Manila and San Francisco.
