Garuda Indonesia, an airline from Indonesia, has successfully claimed the top position as the world's most punctual airline in 2023. This is based on the assessment of the UK-based independent institution, OAG Flightview, which measures the On-Time Performance (OTP) of global airlines.
According to the data released by OAG in the "Annual On-Time Performance for 2023", the state-owned Indonesian airline has topped the list among the top 20 global airlines. The airline achieved an On-Time Performance (OTP) rate of 95.28% out of a total of 49,918 flights operated throughout 2023.
With this outstanding performance, Garuda Indonesia Airline Authority (GIAA) has also become the leading airline in terms of on-time performance in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition, Garuda Indonesia's coverage rate has reached a significant 80.76%.
This achievement complements a series of successes achieved by Garuda Indonesia since 2019, including receiving the 5 Star On-Time Performance Rating in 2019 and being recognized as the most punctual airline in the Punctuality League 2020 and 2023.
Meanwhile, in second place, Oman Air recorded an OTP performance of 93.56% throughout 2023. Oman Air operated 44,687 flights with a coverage rate of 96.75%. Close behind is Safair in third place with an on-time performance of 92.07%. This South African airline has a coverage rate of 94.64% and operated 52,882 flights in 2023.
In fourth place is low-cost German carrier Eurowings with a similar OTP rate to Safair at 92.07% and a coverage rate of 84.43%. Eurowings completed 137,146 flights in 2023. On the other hand, Copa Airlines recorded an on-time performance rate of 89.38% during 2023, securing the fifth position. This Panama-based company operated 114,555 flights in the same year, with a coverage rate of 98.43%.
