The World Airport Awards 2024 were recently announced by Skytrax, an organization known for rating airlines. This report marks their 25th year of surveying customer satisfaction with airports around the world.
In the survey results, Haneda Airport in Tokyo was ranked as the cleanest airport in the world. This achievement is attributed to Haneda's cleanliness standards, especially in areas such as floors, seating, public areas and restroom facilities, making it the best airport in Japan.
Meanwhile, Singapore's Changi Airport is the only airport in Southeast Asia to have made the list.
Skytrax published a list of the world's ten cleanest airports based on a comprehensive survey of more than 570 airports and travellers from over 100 countries.
The ranking is heavily dominated by Asia, with nine of the top ten cleanest airports being located in the region. The only non-Asian airport on the list is Zurich Airport in Switzerland.
Skytrax stated on its official website that the COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the importance of airport cleanliness standards for customers. Airports that maintain the highest standards are highly rated in the Best Airport Cleanliness survey results.
Airport cleanliness has become an increasingly important factor with more than 8.5 billion passengers flying annually.
The World Airport Awards also announced the cleanest airport winners in each region, including Vancouver in North America, Quito in South America, Juan Santamaría in Central America and the Caribbean, Cape Town in Africa, Brisbane in Australia/Pacific, Shanghai Hongqiao in China, Baku in Central Asia and Bangalore in India and South Asia.
The overall winners also swept their regional categories: Tokyo Haneda for Asia, Zurich for Europe, and Doha Hamad for the Middle East.
