Volt Singapore has been awarded a 15-year contract to build and operate Southeast Asia's largest fast-charging electric vehicle (EV) center in Singapore. The hub will serve commercial and passenger electric vehicles, accommodating buses, taxis, private vehicles and other EVs.

Volt is a joint venture between Keppel Infrastructure and Wanbang Digital Energy, a major provider and operator of EV charging stations in China. The company was awarded the contract by a subsidiary of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) as part of its efforts to establish a network of public EV fast-charging stations across Singapore. In line with Singapore Green Plan 2030, this initiative is expected to be the largest deployment of public ultra-fast chargers in a single location in Southeast Asia.

The hub will feature up to 80 DC charging points with capacities of 360kW and 120kW. High-end EV customers will also be able to take advantage of the 360kW chargers, which are specifically designed to quickly charge their vehicles' batteries to 800 volts or higher. It is claimed that an electric vehicle can be charged in as little as 10 minutes.

Construction of this charging hub will be phased, with the first phase consisting of 5 DC 360kW chargers to be operational in the first half of 2026, capable of charging up to 30 electric buses and EVs. Once fully developed, the hub will support the simultaneous charging of 80 electric buses.

Demand for electric vehicles in Singapore continues to grow. Data shows that one-third of new car registrations between January and May this year were EVs, up from 18.1% in 2023. This indicates growing public enthusiasm for this environmentally friendly technology.
