Paris 2024 Olympics Kick Off: How Many Southeast Asian Athletes Are Competing?

Paris, also known as the City of Love, is once again hosting the Olympic Games. This is the third time the city has hosted the world's greatest sporting event, following successful games in 1900 and 1924.

More than 11,000 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and the IOC Refugee Olympic Team will compete in 32 sports at 41 venues across France. A total of 5,084 medals will be awarded in 329 medal events.

On the global stage, the United States leads the way with the largest contingent at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, sending over 592 athletes. Host nation France follows closely with around 573 athletes, while Australia is next with around 460 athletes.

From Southeast Asia, every country in the region is sending athletes to this prestigious event.

In total, Thailand is sending the most athletes from Southeast Asia, followed by Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Vietnam.

The other countries are Timor-Leste, Laos, Brunei Darussalam and Cambodia with 4, 4, 3 and 3 athletes respectively. Meanwhile, Myanmar, which has the highest participation record among Southeast Asian countries with 18 appearances in Olympic history, is sending only 2 athletes to this year's prestigious event.
