Indonesia will host ASEAN Sports Day 2024, a sports celebration that unites the people of Southeast Asia.
Organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) in collaboration with various ministries and the Regional Government of Sleman Regency, this event will take place from August 8-11 in Sleman, Yogyakarta. This year's theme is "Collaboration on Healthy Lifestyle and Safeguarding Traditional Sports and Games Towards a Healthier and Active ASEAN Community."
ASD 2024 will be attended by Brunei, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia as the host, and Timor Leste as an observer. The delegation consists of Focal Point Senior Official Meeting On Sport (SOMS) representatives and community sports activists from ASEAN countries. The main activities include workshops on promoting a healthy lifestyle, a traditional sports festival at Prambanan Temple, and a 6 km ASEAN Fun Bike.
ASEAN Sports Day focuses on promoting a healthy lifestyle and preserving traditional sports in the ASEAN region. The workshops will explore effective strategies for maintaining the preservation of traditional sports amidst modernization.
Deputy of Sports Culture at Kemenpora, Rudy Sufahriadi, hopes that ASEAN Sports Day will be a momentum for the ASEAN community, including Indonesia, to become more active, cherish traditional sports, and showcase Indonesia's rich cultural heritage to the world.
ASEAN Sports Day also aims to strengthen the ties between ASEAN member countries through the introduction of each nation's sports culture and the building of stronger friendships. During the event, visitors will be able to witness the diverse traditional sports cultures from across ASEAN.
The highlight of the event will be the ASEAN Traditional Sports and Games Festival at Prambanan Temple, where each country will showcase its traditional sports. In addition to local traditional sports, Indonesia will feature top performers from the National Traditional Sports Festival held in Parigi Moutong in July 2024.
ASD 2024 will also include various exciting activities, such as Sports Industry Human Resource Training, Tarkam Sleman, the ASEAN Traditional Sport and Games Festival, an International Workshop on Traditional Sports and Healthy Lifestyles, a gymnastics competition, Push Bike Festival, BUMN Bazaar, Greening The Earth, Fun Bike (6 km), and the Tour de Prambanan.
For cycling enthusiasts, the Tour de Prambanan offers a challenge with a 120 km route around Prambanan Temple, as part of the Indonesia Cycling Series.
