Prabowo Subianto’s Diplomatic Mission: Advancing Defense Ties with the Philippines for Regional Stability

The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia and President-elect, Prabowo Subianto, is on a working visit to Manila, the Philippines, to meet with Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. Prabowo's visit to the Philippines is part of his Southeast Asia working tour.

During his visit, Minister Prabowo and President Marcos Jr. are scheduled to meet at Malacañang Palace, Manila, on Friday (20/9). 

A day earlier, on Thursday (19/9), Prabowo arrived at Villamor Air Base, Manila, and was welcomed with a ceremonial honor guard led by the Commander of the Air Installation and Air Base Development Command of the Philippine Air Force, Major General Pablo Rustia.

According to an official statement from the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo's visit to the Philippines aims to enhance and fully contribute to peace and stability in Southeast Asia. 

This visit is part of Prabowo's commitment to strengthening cooperation in building strategic partnerships and bolstering regional defense collaboration.

Working Visit to Southeast Asia  

Before his Southeast Asia tour, Minister Prabowo had already conducted several official visits to ASEAN countries such as Laos, Thailand, and Australia. During his first tour, Prabowo visited Laos on Friday (6/9), where he and his delegation met with the President of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, at the National Assembly Building to discuss various defense cooperation efforts between Laos and Indonesia.

The following day, on (7/9), Prabowo traveled to Thailand to reaffirm his commitment to regional stability and security. He also met with Thailand's newly appointed Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, to congratulate her. 

During the visit, Prabowo expressed that Indonesia and Thailand could collaborate to achieve a higher level of cooperation between the two countries in the future.

After visiting Thailand, Prabowo proceeded to Malaysia. During his visit (7/9), he was scheduled to meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

On this occasion, Prabowo extended an invitation to the inauguration ceremony of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, which will take place in October 2024.
