Tech giant Meta has announced a strategic plan to expand its business reach into Southeast Asia. A key part of the plan is to begin production of its next-generation mixed reality headset, Quest 3S, in Viet Nam by 2025.

The decision follows a high-level meeting between Nick Clegg, Meta's president of global affairs, and the country's president, Tô Lâm. Although details of the investment have not yet been disclosed, the move underlines Meta's confidence in Viet Nam's market growth potential and operational efficiency.

The project is expected to create 1,000 new jobs in Viet Nam's rapidly growing electronics manufacturing sector. In addition, Meta is committed to supporting the development of local artificial intelligence (AI) talent by launching AI courses in Viet Namese universities.

Meta Driving AI Innovation in Viet Nam

In addition to focusing on hardware production, Meta also plans to expand its artificial intelligence solutions in Viet Nam. One of these is the launch of Meta AI in Vietnamese, following a successful trial of the "Business AI for Messenger" service last June. The full launch of the business-oriented AI service is expected before the end of the year, Reuters reported.

The announcement is also in line with Viet Nam's efforts to increase its attractiveness as an investment destination for global businesses, and strengthen its position in the global supply chain.

Facebook: Viet Nam's Most Popular Social Media

With a population of over 100 million, Viet Nam has emerged as a highly potential digital market. The country’s high internet penetration is reflected in the widespread use of social media, particularly among the younger generation.

A report from Statista indicates that Facebook (Meta) dominates Viet Nam's social media landscape, with over 90% of active internet users on the platform. Social media preferences, however, vary across generations. Facebook and local messaging app Zalo are popular among Millennials and Gen X, while Gen Z leans toward global platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok.
