Ukraine's national postal service, Ukrposhta, has issued a limited-edition stamp featuring Indonesia's 8th president, Prabowo Subianto. The stamp was released to commemorate Prabowo's inauguration, which took place on October 20.
According to a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Kyiv on Friday, November 8, the stamp initiative originated from the Ukrainian Initiative, an NGO led by Indonesianist Yurii Kosenko.
As reported by Antara, Kosenko said that this stamp serves as a tribute to Indonesia's new leader and a symbol of Indonesia-Ukraine friendship. Indonesian Ambassador to Ukraine Arief Basalamah received the stamp at the Ukrposhta office in Nizhyn last October. During the event, Arief expressed his appreciation to Ukrposhta and The Ukrainian Initiative for this gesture and reiterated Indonesia's readiness to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Ukraine in various fields under the administration of President Prabowo Subianto.
This special edition stamp, although limited, can be officially used for postal services throughout Ukraine. The launch of the stamp was also shared by the Indonesian Embassy in Kyiv through its official social media account, @indonesiainkyiv.
The initiative reflects Ukraine's support for Indonesia's leadership and symbolizes the growing diplomatic ties between the two countries.
According to CNBC Indonesia, Prabowo previously received criticism from Kyiv regarding his remarks at the 2023 Shangri-La Dialogue about the Russia-Ukraine conflict. During his tenure as Defense Minister, Prabowo proposed a referendum, which Kyiv strongly opposed.
However, after his election as President, Prabowo received congratulations from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who reportedly also discussed peace solutions for the Russia-Ukraine conflict with Prabowo.
In addition, Indonesia has historical ties with Ukraine, especially during Ukraine's war with Russia. Prabowo's predecessor, President Joko Widodo, became the first Asian leader to visit Ukraine after the war began in June 2022.
