Indonesia's Second AFF Futsal Title
After more than a decade, Indonesia has once again secured the AFF Futsal Championship title in 2024, repeating the success first achieved in 2010. Back then, Indonesia triumphed over Malaysia with a commanding 5-0 win in the final, which was also hosted by Vietnam.
This marks Indonesia’s second championship in the history of the AFF Futsal tournament, which has seen 18 editions since 2001. Meanwhile, Thailand continues to dominate the tournament with 16 titles to their name.
Indonesia’s Perfect Journey to the Championship
Indonesia’s success in 2024 was not only defined by their victory but also by their flawless performance throughout the tournament. Under the guidance of coach Hector Souto, Indonesia was placed in Group B alongside Australia, Myanmar, and Cambodia.
Indonesia showcased their dominance from the group stage, defeating Cambodia 9-0, Australia 3-1, and Myanmar 5-1. These results propelled Indonesia into the semifinals with high confidence.
Impressive Wins Over Thailand and Vietnam
In the semifinals, Indonesia faced their strong rival Thailand. However, the Garuda squad broke Thailand’s dominance with a decisive 5-1 victory. This performance solidified Indonesia’s position as a top contender, with a total of 22 goals scored and only three goals conceded throughout the tournament.
The crowning moment came in the final match, where Indonesia successfully overcame host Vietnam with a 2-0 win. This victory sealed Indonesia’s championship title with a perfect record, having not lost a single match during the tournament. Once again, Indonesia demonstrated its position as a futsal powerhouse in Southeast Asia.
