Singapore and Germany have officially elevated their bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region. This decision was finalized during a meeting between Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

The partnership marks a significant milestone leading to the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2025 and focuses on five key pillars:
- Defense and Security
Strengthening military cooperation through digitalization and cybersecurity, with enhanced high-level engagements and joint exercises. - Trade and Digital Economy
Expanding economic collaboration under the Framework for Sustainability and Innovation, while supporting the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement to pave the way for broader EU-ASEAN trade relations. - Climate and Green Technology
Collaborating on maritime decarbonization, carbon trade, and developing eco-friendly fuels and technologies. - Science and Innovation
Launching joint research projects in quantum technology, green chemistry, and medical innovations to drive sustainable advancements. - Education and Culture
Deepening people-to-people ties through student exchanges, vocational training, and cultural collaborations with institutions like the Goethe-Institut.
