But everyone must know all her works (as a writer and as a director) such as 2 "Garis Biru" (Two Blue Stripes) which won the best film at 2019 Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival, 2019 Bandung Film Festival and 2020 Maya Awards. The other else is Like & Share which won the best film on 2023 Osaka Asia Film Festival.
Gina's Biography
Retna Ginatri S. Noer is a well-known film director from Indonesia. She was born in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan August 24th, 1985. During his studies, he initially pursued a program majoring in broadcasting before eventually deciding to switch to the Mass Communication program, both of which he undertook at the University of Indonesia in Jakarta.
Gina's Early Career in Film Industry
2004 was the first year Gina started her career in the world of film. At that time she won a competition called ‘Close Up Movie Competition’ with his short film titled “Ladies Room”
Two years after that, in 2006 Gina got a chance to be a part of independent photo film production. At that time, he was assigned as the screenwriter for a film titled “Kotak Jendela” (Window Box).
In 2008, Gina then got another chance to become a screenwriter. This time she be a a part in the production of a feature film that is quite well known internationally to this day, “Ayat-ayat Cinta” (Love Verses). This film is an adaptation of the novel with the same title released in 2004, directed by Hanung Bramantyo.
It didn't take long for Gina S. Noer's name to become known to the public. Through the award for best screenplay at the 2009 FFI Awards which she received for her script for the film “Perempuan Berkalung Sorban” (Women with Turban). A year later, her name appeared again in the best screenplays of the year nominee through the film “Hari untuk Amanda” (The day for Amanda).
Habibie's Biographical Film
Gina S. Noer got the spotlight again in 2012. On this year she and Ifan Adriansyah Ismail wrote a screenplay for a biographical film "Habibie dan Ainun” (Habibie and Ainun) The story is about the love story of the third former president of Indonesia, BJ Habibie. The story is focus on the time when he was named as Indonesian President and when Ainun must survive against cancer.
At that time, the film directed by Faozan Rizal set a record by attracting 2 million viewers in just two weeks. Later, in 2013, the two screenwriters won the award for best screenplay at the 2013 FFI Awards.
Because of his incredible accomplishments, BJ Habibie's life story was adapted into two more films: "Rudy Habibie" (2016) and "Habibie & Ainun 2" (2019), which are basically prequels to the first one. Gina also came back to write the script for "Rudy Habibie", bringing back that awesome teamwork.
Habibie, The Third Indonesian President
Habibie or BJ Habibie is the former 3rd Indonesian President (1998 - 1999). He was also the first Indonesian engineer to design a plane in 1995 named "N250 Gatot Kaca." Ainun is his wife, whom he met in junior high school.
Gina's First Directorial Debut
Besides the biographical film about BJ Habibie, Gina is also known for her role as the director, producer, and screenwriter of the 2019 movie "Dua Garis Biru". The movie follows the story of two high school students, Dara and Bima, who must face the consequences of their actions after Dara becomes pregnant at a young age.
Through this film, Gina emphasizes the importance of instilling moral values, particularly highlighting the role of parental awareness in educating children about teenage relationships.
She addresses the significance of understanding and facing the consequences of one's actions and discusses how parents can approach their children effectively, especially during challenging situations.
Even though it addressing complex and sensitive issues, this film got 2.5 million viewers in Indonesia. Later that year, it was also screened commercially in Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, and Malaysia, spreading its message even further.

Interestingly, “Dua Garis Biru” is Gina S. Noer's first feature film-directing debut. And this year she returned to direct the sequel of the story from “Dua Garis Biru” which premiered this year, on April 17, 2024.
This film, titled “Dua Hati Biru”, This new film offers valuable moral messages, especially about parenting for young parents. It's also being showcased again in Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia.
