Are We Ready to Welcome Generation Beta?
The new year not only brings hope but also marks the dawn of a new demographic chapter: Generation Beta. Defined as children born between 2025 and 2039, this generation is projected to make up 16% of the global population by 2035.
Social researcher Mark McCrindle, the creator of generational labels, explains that Generation Beta will witness the early history of the 22nd century. Their name, inspired by the Greek alphabet, continues the tradition started by Generation Alpha (2010–2024). Following in the footsteps of Gen Z (1996–2010) and Millennials (1981–1996), this generation will face new challenges and opportunities.
Who Are Generation Beta?
Called "Beta Babies," this generation is expected to grow up in a world fully integrated with advanced technology. From autonomous transportation to wearable health devices and immersive virtual experiences, their daily lives will be shaped by innovations we are only beginning to imagine.
By 2035, Generation Beta is anticipated to comprise approximately 19% of the global workforce. Moreover, a significant portion of them are predicted to live into the 22nd century, making them witnesses to monumental shifts in human civilization.
According to social researcher Mark McCrindle, Generation Beta will surpass the digital habits introduced by Generation Alpha. While Generation Alpha has experienced the rise of smart technology and artificial intelligence, Generation Beta will live in an era where AI and automation are fully embedded in education, work, healthcare, and entertainment.
Even more intriguing, Generation Beta will be the children of Millennials and older Gen Z individuals. They will carry the creativity and ambition of their parents while adapting to the challenges of a new world.
The question is, how can we—as the preceding generations—lay a strong foundation for their future? This is our moment to design a world that is ready to embrace innovation while upholding core human values.
What Kind of World Will Be Passed Down to Them?
This question becomes increasingly relevant as Generation Beta grows up amid rapid technological innovation, complex social dynamics, and global challenges that demand creative solutions.
Beneath the dazzling advancements in technology, Generation Beta will also face significant challenges. Ongoing climate change, rapid urbanization, and global population shifts will emerge as pressing issues they must address. These challenges will require extraordinary adaptability, innovation, and collaboration.
The growing awareness of sustainability seen in Generations Z and Alpha will be passed on to Generation Beta, who are expected to transform the concept of sustainability into fundamental practices. Understanding their needs, values, and preferences will be key to designing a future that is inclusive and sustainable.
